RAK College of Dental Sciences (RAKCODS), RAKMHSU observed World Patient Safety Day on 17 September 2026 through an awareness programme organized by the Quality and Patient Safety (QPS) Office. The programme was aligned with the World Health Organization’s 2026 theme, “Safe care for non-communicable diseases,” and the campaign slogan, “Safe care for life!”
The event brought together patients, faculty, staff, students, interns, and trainees to promote awareness of patient safety and emphasize the shared responsibility of everyone involved in delivering safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care. A range of interactive activities was organized to encourage participation and communicate important safety messages in an engaging and accessible way.
Activities included patient safety games and awareness sessions, a Patient Safety Pledge Wall, opportunities for patients to share their feedback, and the distribution of gifts to participants. These activities encouraged open communication, active involvement, and greater awareness of the roles of both patients and healthcare providers in preventing avoidable harm and improving the overall care experience.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Misbah, Patient Experience Officer; Dr. Puja, Head Nurse; and Ms. Aprille, QPS Assistant, under the Quality and Patient Safety Office chaired by Dr. Vivek Padmanabhan. Their collaborative efforts contributed to the successful implementation of the programme and strengthened engagement across the RAKCODS clinical community.
The initiative also reflected key patient safety principles, including meaningful patient engagement, prevention of harm, continuous learning, and collaboration between patients and healthcare professionals. Particular emphasis was placed on encouraging patients to participate actively in their care and promoting learning and awareness among healthcare providers.
Through the World Patient Safety Day 2026 programme, RAKCODS reinforced its ongoing commitment to integrating patient safety into clinical practice and education and to fostering a culture in which safety is recognized as a shared responsibility throughout the patient care journey.
