The main purpose of Academic Advising at RAK Medical and Health Sciences University (RAKMHSU) is to establish an effective system to facilitate contact, establish rapport and strengthen the relationship between both Academic Advisors (Faculty) and Advisees (Students). The entire process runs in parallel with effective planning to cover maximum potential, overall development and success of students through Academic Advising. In addition, we believe that this plan will lead to reach the core value of Academic Advising, by preparing the advisors to be faithful guides to the students by being knowledgeable and empathetic, which will facilitate the students to take decisions about their educational processes and career.

Goals:

The Academic Advising at RAKMHSU fulfils the following goals:

• Helping advisees identify and achieve their academic goals;
• Promoting intellectual innovation;
• Encouraging students to take advantage of both in- and out-of-class educational opportunities;
• To become facilitating self-directed learners and decision-makers;
• Identifying the weakness/ problems of students early to take rectifying action without any delay;
• Helping students to understand the nature and the purpose of higher education especially medical and health science fields;
• Helping students to clarify their values and goals and to better understand themselves;
• Providing accurate information about educational options, requirements, policies and procedures;
• Assisting students in the continual monitoring and evaluation of their educational progress;
• Integrating the resources of the institution to meet the student's special educational needs.

The Academic Advising is a mandatory process run by the Advisor (faculty) to offer Advising to the Advisee (Student) under the supervision of the University.

The Advisor:

The teaching faculty member of University are taking the responsibility of Advising in each college.

The Advisee:

The students of each college are distributed to the Advisors of their respective college. The Advisee continue with their Advisor from the joining until their graduation.

The roles and responsibilities of Advisors and Advisees are Included in the Academic Advising Manual, the Student’s Handbook and the Faculty Handbook.

How the RAKMHSU is monitoring Academic Advising Process?

1. A Direct Measure, Academic Advising monthly reporting. This Phase went through the Academic Advising Reporting Cycle at RAKMHSU.
2. An Indirect Measure. Academic Advising Student’s Survey. This Phase is conducted through IEQAA Office.
3. The Annual Report. Giving an Overview about Academic Advising Process for the whole University, Overall Colleges.
