Translational Medical Research Centre
A hub where scientific ambition meets cutting-edge infrastructure — translating fundamental research into applied biomedical, pharmaceutical and healthcare innovation.
Where Discovery Meets Patient Care
Established in 2018, the Translational Medical Research Centre is RAKMHSU's hub of scientific inquiry and collaboration. Its research investigates the mechanisms behind infectious and non-infectious disease, spanning microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology and the pharmaceutical sciences.
TMRC serves as the shared research hub for all four colleges — RAKCOMS, RAKCOP, RAKCODS and RAKCON — so that expertise and instrumentation are pooled rather than duplicated, and discoveries are translated into diagnostics, products and techniques that improve patient outcomes.

Vision
To be a globally competitive hub for translational biomedical research, driving innovations that advance healthcare, science, and societal well-being.
Mission
To enable the seamless translation of fundamental research into applied biomedical, pharmaceutical, and healthcare innovations through state-of-the-art infrastructure and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Build and sustain globally benchmarked in vitro and molecular research infrastructure.
Foster interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral research collaboration.
Advance drug discovery, diagnostics, biomaterials, nanotechnology, and precision medicine research.
Enable advanced omics, molecular pathway, and systems biology investigations.
Develop human capital through advanced research training and mentorship.
Strengthen national, regional, and international research partnerships.
Six Specialist Laboratory Units
From microbiology and cell culture through to next-generation sequencing, TMRC's units give researchers across the University access to instrumentation that would be out of reach to any single college.
Microbiology Unit
Culture, identification and susceptibility work underpinning the centre's infectious-disease research.
Cell Culture Unit
Sterile in vitro culture facilities supporting cell-based assays and translational model systems.
Molecular Biology Unit
Nucleic-acid extraction, amplification and molecular pathway investigation.
Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Unit
High-throughput sequencing enabling advanced omics and systems-biology studies.
Biochemistry & Immunology Unit
Biochemical and immunological assay capability across the centre's research programs.
Histopathology Unit
Tissue processing, sectioning and histological analysis for preclinical research.
“Welcome to the Translational Medical Research Centre at RAKMHSU, a hub where scientific ambition meets cutting-edge infrastructure and translational impact.”
TMRC exemplifies the principle that transformative biomedical research thrives at the nexus of knowledge, technology, and visionary leadership.
Two Ways to Work With TMRC
TMRC engages external partners through two defined models, each with its own scope of services and intellectual-property framework.
Contract Research Organization (CRO) Model
Fee-for-service research delivered by TMRC on the partner's behalf, with a defined scope of services and a clear financial and intellectual-property framework.
Collaborative Research Model
Joint research undertaken as partners, with a shared scope of collaboration and an agreed financial and intellectual-property framework.
