Promotion, Recognition, and Incentive Systems

RAKMHSU has a clear academic promotion system in which faculty members are evaluated based on teaching, research, and community service. In alignment with global research trends and ISR criteria, the university places growing emphasis on interdisciplinary research in its promotion criteria, recognising its role in fostering innovation, solving complex healthcare challenges, and enhancing RAKMHSU's national and international research standing.

  1. 1. Inclusion of Interdisciplinary Research in Promotion Requirements, Interdisciplinary research is evaluated based on scientific quality, academic and societal impact, and the journals in which it is published. Priority is given to research offering innovative solutions to real-world healthcare problems, particularly those aligned with UAE national health priorities and ISR participation criteria.
  2. 2. Additional Points for Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration, RAKMHSU awards incentive points for research involving collaboration across different disciplines, encourages approaches integrating natural sciences, biomedical engineering, and health sciences, and multiplies points for research published in Q1 and Q2 journals with high FWCI scores.
  3. 3. Supporting Research Exchange and International Partnerships, International research collaboration is encouraged through academic exchange programmes with leading global universities; joint funding is provided for projects executed with international research institutions; and researchers are supported in participating in international conferences focused on interdisciplinary health research.
  4. 4. Enhancing Research-Industry Partnerships, Applied research conducted in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, and government health bodies is considered in promotion criteria; additional incentives are offered to researchers who translate interdisciplinary research into clinical applications, patents, or marketable technologies.
  5. 5. Marketing Interdisciplinary Research and Knowledge Transfer, A specialised unit promotes interdisciplinary research outcomes to relevant stakeholders; research and innovation exhibitions showcase key results to investors and funding agencies; researchers receive consultations on patents and technology transfer to enhance practical healthcare impact.
  6. 6. Scientific Awards and Competitions, The RAKMHSU Award for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Research honours researchers achieving outstanding success in scientific integration; annual research competitions encourage innovative interdisciplinary project submissions; competitive grants and publication support are awarded to winning projects.
