Partnerships & Innovation
Partnerships & Innovation
Contract research, collaborative programmes, facility access and clinical studies — with the intellectual property position stated up front. Academic institutions, hospitals, industry, start-ups and government bodies work with the University's researchers and research centres under the engagement models below.
Three ways to work with us
The first two models are already in operation at CARF and TMRC and are reproduced here at University level. The third is proposed. Choose a model to see its terms.
Contract Research Organisation (CRO) model
We execute the study end-to-end against your objectives and defined endpoints, on a transparent external-rate framework.
- End-to-end research execution against the partner's objectives and defined endpoints
- Protocol development, ethical approval, execution, data collection, analysis and final reporting
- Transparent financial framework: external-rate project charges, milestone-based payments
- Intellectual property remains with the external partner
Collaborative research model
Joint protocol development, execution and analysis with our investigators as scientific partners.
- Joint protocol development, experimental execution and data analysis
- Access to raw and analysed data for co-authored publications or innovation outputs
- Facility and research costs borne by the collaborator at agreed internal rates
- Shared intellectual property based on contribution and mutual agreement
Clinical research partnership Proposed
Studies conducted with our clinical partners, drawing on our ethics governance, research pharmacy and interprofessional investigator base.
- Studies conducted with the University's clinical partners
- Human Ethics Committee review of every study
- Research pharmacy and an interprofessional investigator base across medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and nursing
- Intellectual property negotiated per study
Both research centres publish the first two models in full, with their scope of services: TMRC and CARF. Clinical studies with partner hospitals are reviewed by the Human Ethics Committee.

IP and commercialisation Policy in preparation
A published intellectual-property, technology-transfer and commercialisation position — ownership, revenue sharing, disclosure route and spin-out policy — is being prepared by the Office of Research & Postgraduate Studies. For industry partners this is usually the first question asked; until it is published, the position for each engagement model above applies and the terms of an individual agreement are settled in the contract or memorandum that governs it.
Technology transfer and patents sit within the research facilities branch of the Office of Research & Postgraduate Studies.
