Facilities and Infrastructure for Interdisciplinary Research

RAKMHSU is committed to providing an integrated research environment that supports interdisciplinary teams across its health sciences colleges and allied scientific domains. The university's research infrastructure is purpose-built to facilitate effective collaboration, translational discovery, and ISR-eligible output generation.

Core Research Facilities

Translational Medical Research Centre (TMRC)
TMRC is RAKMHSU's flagship interdisciplinary wet-laboratory ecosystem, integrating nanopharmaceutical formulation, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, histopathology, molecular biology, cell culture, and next-generation sequencing under one roof. Key instrumentation includes Waters Xevo TQ-XS LC-MS/MS, Automated HPLC, Nanogenerator, Particle Size Analyser, FTIR, DSC, Flash Chromatography, and Freeze Dryer. TMRC bridges Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Engineering, and Clinical & Health research, directly supporting ISR-eligible research outputs in drug discovery, nanomedicine, anticancer research, and pharmaceutical innovation.

Central Animal Research Facility (CARF)
CARF is a fully licensed, MOCCAE and RAK EPDA-registered BSL-2 compliant preclinical research hub. It supports in vivo validation of novel drugs, nanoparticles, and biologics across metabolic, oncologic, neurologic, cardiovascular, infectious, and toxicological domains. CARF integrates Life Sciences, Engineering, and Clinical & Health research, enabling cross-disciplinary in vivo experimentation that translates molecular discoveries into whole-organism outcomes. CARF adheres to the 3R principles (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) and global ethical standards.

Simulation & Interprofessional Development Center (SIDC)
SIDC provides a state-of-the-art platform for interprofessional education and cross-disciplinary clinical training. Its simulation infrastructure, encompassing high-fidelity mannequins, virtual reality surgical simulators, and standardised patient programmes, supports interdisciplinary research at the intersection of Clinical & Health Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science, and Education Studies. SIDC is a key enabler of ISR-eligible research in healthcare simulation, educational technology, and patient safety.

Library and Digital Research Infrastructure
RAKMHSU's library provides access to Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, and a comprehensive suite of medical and interdisciplinary databases through its E-Library platform. Faculty and postgraduate researchers benefit from article request services, research tutorials, OPAC access, and dedicated research support staff, ensuring equitable access to the literature required for cross-disciplinary research synthesis.

Affiliated Clinical Training Hospitals
RAKMHSU's research ecosystem is supported by over 1,150 affiliated clinical beds across three RAK hospitals, Saqr Hospital, IBOH Hospital, and Abdullah Bin Omran Hospital, as well as three primary health centres and the 320-bed Fujairah General Hospital. These clinical settings serve as real-world research environments enabling interdisciplinary studies spanning medicine, pharmacy, nursing, dentistry, and social sciences.

Center for Health Workforce Development (CHWD)
CHWD supports interdisciplinary capacity building through continuing professional development, collaborative training programmes, and workforce research. It bridges Education Studies, Social Sciences, and Clinical & Health Sciences in research on healthcare workforce planning, interprofessional learning, and health systems performance.

Continuous Medical Education (CME) Platform
The CME platform facilitates interdisciplinary knowledge exchange across RAKMHSU's colleges through workshops, symposia, and visiting expert programmes. CME activities generate collaborative research opportunities between clinical faculty and researchers from allied disciplines including pharmacology, public health, and biomedical engineering.
