Hospital Facilities for Clinical Teaching of Medical Students

The clinical phase of the curriculum of MD includes fourteen required clerkships (Community medicine, Ophthalmology, Oto-rhino-laryngology, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Orthopedics, Dermatology, Radio-diagnosis, Anesthesia & critical care, Emergency Medicine and Electives.

During this period, the students are exposed to all the major specialties of Medicine and Surgery as well as many sub specialties in hospital setting. As they rotate through various departments, they work to develop relationships with faculty and other physicians, seek out mentors who can help out guide their future career choices. They will be evaluated by clerkship assessments including evaluations from their attending core and adjunct clinical faculty by other appropriate methods. All these evaluation will become part of their continuous assessment.

RAKMHSU uses the facilities of hospitals in Saqr Hospital, Ibrahim Bin Hamad Obaidullah Hospital and Abdullah Bin Omran Hospital, Ras Al Khaimah for teaching and clinical training of the students, in addition to the various primary health centers available in Ras Al Khaimah under the ambit of RAK Medical Zone. It also uses Emirates Health Services (EHS) / Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) Hospitals at Fujairah for clinical clerkship.

Saqr Hospital:

It has bed capacity of 278 and all the surgical specialties like General Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Oto-rhino-laryngology, Ophthalmology, Anesthesia, Radiology, Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics are located in this hospital.

Ibrahim Bin Hamad Obaidullah Hospital (IBOH):

It has a bed capacity of 253 and all the medical specialties viz Internal Medicine (including Neurology, Respiratory Medicine and Cardiology) Dermatology, Emergency Medicine and Psychiatry are located in Ibrahim Bin Hamad Obaidullah Hospital (IBOH).

Abdullah Bin Omran Hospital, Ras Al Khaimah:

It has a bed capacity of 85 beds and has Obstetrics & Gynecology, Neonatology and Anesthesiology specialties and is available for students’ teaching and clinical training since September 2018.

Primary health centres:

For community Medicine clerkship rotations, students rotate between 5 PHCs [ Ras Al Khaimah PHC (Al Kuwaiti Hospital), Al Maarid PHC, Al Dhait PHC, Al Nakheel PHC and Julphar PHC].

Hospitals in Fujairah

Fujairah general hospital:

It has a bed capacity of 320 beds and has all the medical and surgical specialties. Currently, students have clinical clerkship rotations of Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics and Neonatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ophthalmology and Orthopedics in Fujairah.
