Hospital Facilities for Clinical Teaching

In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Ministry of Health, UAE, students of RAK Medical and Health Sciences University are provided clinical teaching and training at Saqr Hospital, Ibrahim Bin Hamad Obaidullah Hospital, Abdullah Bin Omran Hospital and Primary Health Centers in Ras Al Khaimah, all of which are under the ambit of RAK Medical District.

Ras Al Khaimah

Saqr Hospital has bed capacity of 278. All the surgical specialties like General Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Oto-rhino-laryngology and Ophthalmology are available in this hospital. All the medical specialties viz Internal Medicine, Neurology, Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology, Dermatology, and Psychiatry are located in Ibrahim Bin Hamad Obaidullah Hospital (IBHO).

Abdullah Bin Omran Hospital, Ras Al Khaimah has Obstetrics & Gynecology, Neonatology and Anesthesiology specialities and is available for MBBS students’ teaching and clinical training beginning September 2018.


Fujairah Hospital is a tertiary care hospital under the Ministry of Health and Prevention UAE. The hospital has 320 beds and 7 operation theaters. The specialties available are General Medicine with subspecialties of Gastroenterology, Neurology, Rheumatology, Nephrology, cardiology and Psychiatry. General Surgery has subspecialties of Vascular surgery, Minimal Invasive surgery, Plastic surgery, Pediatric and Neurosurgery. The hospital also has advanced Minimal Invasive Surgery Unit and Advanced Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Unit. The Obstetrics and Gynecology department has 100 beds. There are 40 beds in Pediatric wing with pediatric ICU (PICU). Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) has 22 beds with 8 ventilators. Orthopedic, Dermatology, ENT and Ophthalmology departments carry out diagnostic as well as operative work. The Radiology department has breast disease detection center, DEXA scan, two CT scans, MRI and full-fledged nuclear medicine dept.

Composition of Adjunct Clinical Faculty

The adjunct clinical faculty are basically full-time physicians employed by the hospital under the purview of Ministry of Health, UAE. The adjunct clinical faculty are composed of all ranks, such as Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Lecturer and Instructor, who regularly teach/engage in the instructional activities in hospitals. They have been issued with individual letters of appointment that grants adjunct faculty status at RAK Medical and Health Sciences University [RAKMHSU].

Adjunct clinical faculty members are involved in the clinical teaching and assessment based on their appointment orders issued by the University, which is valid for a period of two academic years and will be renewed upon satisfactory performance and mutual consent.

All adjunct clinical faculty members have documented qualifications from institutes of good repute constituting various regional and international medical boards. All adjunct clinical faculty members have relevant experience to teach, instruct and supervise including bed-side teaching and patient care. The adjunct clinical faculty members closely work with the Associate Dean [Clinical Teaching and Training] and Core Clinical Faculty for the implementation of curriculum, assessments, evaluation and feedback.
