Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics- I is a four credit course offered in the first semester of the First year of MS clinical pharmacy curriculum. The aims of this course are to develop the necessary professional skills in the student for the drug therapy management of different diseases, such as cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, gastrointestinal, endocrine and hematological and disorders; to resolve drug related problems; and appreciate the quality use of medicines. This knowledge helps the students to apply therapeutic skills and rational selection of drugs in the management of diseases. Learning is facilitated through ward rounds, case discussions, and interactive lecture sessions, self-directed learning (small group sessions, assignments, problem based learning, seminar and course examinations).

Principles of clinical pharmacy & Patient Data Analysis is a four credit course offered in the first semester of first year MS clinical pharmacy curriculum. The main goal of the course is to prepare the student to understand the professional roles of clinical pharmacist. During the course, the students are taught about the importance of ward round participation, collecting medication history to monitor the drug therapy by analyzing the lab profiles of the patient, provision of unbiased drug information to the prescribers and counseling of patients. The educational objectives of this course will be achieved through interactive learning, assignments, seminars, and the course examinations.

Advanced Hospital Pharmacy is a four credit course offered in the first semester of the first year MS curriculum. The main goal of the course is to prepare the student to understand the professional roles of hospital pharmacist and delegate the same diligence to provide effective services to the clinicians and patients. The students are taught about various hospital pharmacy services such as drug dispensing, distribution, patient counseling and prevention of medication errors for improved patient care. The educational objectives of this course will be achieved through hospital pharmacy postings, assignments and seminars.

Course Description:

This course deals with the questions to be asked by a community pharmacist in a number diseases in a community setting. Differentiates between different aspect of certain diseases and describe effective therapy management in community pharmacy. Importance of health screening services in drug therapy management and home medication review, in addition to build up full background knowledge about the use of medication in retail pharmacy and to interpret this information into the actual counseling process and management. Learning is facilitated through interactive lecture sessions, self-directed learning (small group sessions, case based learning, assignments, problem based learning, seminar and course examinations). The course will also involve a minimum of 4 rotations in PHCs in RAK.

Clinical Pharmacokinetics & Toxicology are a four credit course offered in the first semester of the first year MS curriculum. The main goal of the course is to prepare the student to learn and understand the significance of the various pharmacokinetic parameters in a clinical situation. The course aims at the student’s ability to plan the dosage adjustments based on the drug levels. Students also will be learning bioavailability and bioequivalence studies and its clinical significance. Students are required to understand and learn the different poisoning cases that are encountered in the hospital, its clinical manifestations and management.

Clinical research and biostatistics is a four credit course offered in the second semester of the first year MS curriculum. The main goal of the course is to prepare the student to learn and understand the various stages of clinical drug development process and research. Course Description:

The dissertation is aimed to train a master student in research methods and techniques under the guidance of a recognized guide. The student will be trained in literature review, design of research, study, data collection, critical analysis, comparison of results, drawing conclusions and making recommendations. A total of 4 credits is assigned to the 3rd and 4th semesters for different areas of dissertation work mentioned above. Along with this 2 credit hours are assigned for the research seminar related to the dissertation work. The dissertation submitted will be evaluated by the external examiners appointed by the university. Seminars and progress reports given by the students will help in problem solving, teamwork and leadership qualities.
